What is an empty leg?

An empty leg is a repositioning flight: a private jet has to fly without passengers, back to base or to its next charter. Instead of flying empty, operators sell these flights well below regular charter prices.

Same jet, same crew, same service – at a fraction of the price. The trade-off is flexibility: route and date are fixed, and times can shift if the linked charter changes.

How much does an empty leg cost?

Prices are per aircraft, not per seat. Short light-jet routes start in the low thousands; midsize jets cost more but offer more cabin and range. Savings versus a one-way charter reach up to 75%.

Empty leg FAQ

What is the difference between an empty leg and a charter?

With a charter you choose route, date and time. An empty leg is an already scheduled repositioning flight with a fixed route – and much cheaper.

Can an empty leg be cancelled?

Yes. Because it depends on another charter, the operator may change or cancel it. Terms, including refunds, are set out in our terms and conditions.
