Trust-registered private jets
Only US citizens and US companies may register an aircraft on the US registry. Foreign owners — and anyone who wants to stay anonymous — therefore use an owner trust: a bank such as Bank of Utah or Wilmington Trust is registered as trustee.
The beneficial owner then does not appear in the public registry. A single trustee can stand for hundreds of jets owned by corporations, sovereign funds and individuals from around the world.

Why is Bank of Utah the owner of so many private jets?
Bank of Utah is one of the largest aircraft trustees on the US registry. It is registered as owner so that foreign or anonymous owners can operate their jet with a US registration (“N-number”). The bank has nothing to do with operating the aircraft.
How accurate is the classification?
We classify owners automatically from the name in the aircraft registry — for example “Trustee” for trusts or “LLC” for companies. Outdated registry entries, leasing or unusual names can lead to wrong assignments in individual cases.
