Private jet CO₂ ranking 2026: celebrities & companies

This ranking shows the estimated CO₂ emissions of private jets that public sources attribute to well-known people and companies — since 1 January 2026, updated continuously.

It is based on the take-offs and landings our private jet tracker detects from publicly broadcast ADS-B signals. Below that you will find the 50 private jets with the highest emissions overall, attributed or not.

Methodology

We detect flights from ADS-B positions: when a jet goes from the ground into the air a flight begins; when it lands or disappears at low altitude, it ends. Departure and arrival airport is the nearest airfield in each case.

CO₂ = typical fuel burn of the aircraft class (kg per hour) × observed flight time × 3.16 kg of CO₂ per kg of jet fuel. Payload, wind, altitude and the exact model change the real value; taxi time on the ground is not included.

If a jet is only picked up in the air — over the sea or in regions without receivers, for example — only the observed flight time counts. Jets whose owners have requested blocking (e.g. LADD) are missing. All figures are therefore lower bounds.

CO₂ ranking FAQ

How are a private jet’s CO₂ emissions calculated?

We multiply the typical hourly fuel burn of the aircraft class by the observed flight time and convert at 3.16 kg of CO₂ per kg of jet fuel. A light jet burns around 420 kg of fuel per hour, an ultra-long-range jet such as the Gulfstream G650 around 1,800 kg.

Does the person in first place really fly the most?

ADS-B data cannot tell. The ranking adds up the flights of the jets that public sources attribute to a person or company. Who was on board is unknown — jets are also chartered, leased or used by family and staff.

Why are the figures lower than in some media reports?

We only count flight time that was actually observed. Segments over oceans or in regions without receivers are missing, and taxi time is not included. The figures are therefore a lower bound.

Since when is there data for 2026?

The private jet tracker has been recording flights since September 2026. There is no data for earlier periods, so the first year is incomplete.

Can I use the figures in an article?

Yes, under the Open Database License, crediting “PrivJet, adsb.lol” and linking to this page. Please send corrections and removal requests to [email protected].

Fly private without triggering an empty flight

Empty legs are repositioning flights that happen anyway. Booking one means using a flight that would otherwise fly without passengers.

Data sources & notes

Data source: public ADS-B data

All positions come from publicly broadcast ADS-B signals that every aircraft transmits unencrypted and that volunteers around the world receive. Data may be delayed, incomplete or inaccurate.

Linking an aircraft to a well-known person is based on public sources such as media reports and registry data. "Jet attributed to X" explicitly does not mean that this person is on board or ordered the flight — aircraft are also chartered, sold or used by others.

All information is provided without warranty; no liability is accepted for accuracy or completeness. CO₂ figures are estimates based on typical fuel burn for the aircraft class.

Using this data to harass, track or stalk people is prohibited.
